Well I got a surprise today. I figured since the WGT624 v3 was such a pain in the A** the WGR614 v7 would be as useless to me. But last week I bought 2 of the WGR614 v7 and the one WGR614 v7 on ebay. Well one of the 614's came today and what do ya know it works at least so far as testing with 1 laptop. It has Firmware V2.0.23.1.0.23 and the WGT624 has 3.2.0.26.1.0.1. So that is maybe ok for me since I bought 2 of the 614's man I got em for a few bucks apiece I so what the heck. That darn 624 I paid 20.00 for that junk.

Reason I bought the thing is I have a nice screened in porch out front and I get a barely usable signal out there. The porch is sorta detached and 15 foot from the computer room. And I have aluminum siding. The intention was to bury cat5 out there and use the 624 there but I reckon I'll use a 614 instead now and use the 624 for a door stop. And there is nothing wrong with it. It just won't handle DHCP. But this 614 does ok so far.

Maybe someday they will fix that ignorant bug in the firmware for the 624 or maybe i will try going back a few versions just to test. I seldom buy new junk anyways I like to get the old stuff thats been abused and fix it thats my thing. But I will never buy another Netgear WGT624 again new or used. I learned my lesson stick with something that works like Linksys. I bought a newer one today off ebay in fact I will decide either 614 or the Linksys out here but I think the 614 will do I gave 5.00 for the thing and if it gets ripped off I sure won't lose much.

I am in fact on a laptop in the screen room now typing this using that 614. And another laptop playing old Nightrider TV shows. So it is so far working.

Yea this is out of my understanding also. I have owned about every sort of SOHO router there is. A few days ago I set up a buddys new WGT614 for him on his simple 1 laptop and 1 desktop network. And I sorta liked the looks of the little thing so a bought 2 on ebay. one WGT624 and one WGT614. Well I spent 8 hours or so trying to get the piece of crap 624 to work and I finally decided to give up the loss and sell it for whatever I could get for it.

It is unreal that a company would even think of selling these things like this. Never again will netgear get any sales from my corner of the networking world you can bet on it. Why would somebody go to all that trouble with static IPs on laptops and wireless cams? It is a joke thats what it is.

I lmao when I seen your thread on netgears forum man. I had been working here for 8 hours straight trying to fix something that isn't worth the box it came in. In my case I will just stay with this 10 year old G belkin and the even older WRT54G I have now. Never a problem they pass DHCP requests all day every day.

And you know before I updated the firmware on this ver 3 piece of crap WGT624 it was actually sometimes passing the requests. Say 1 out 15 times or so. I tryed everything like you but it is useless it seems.

Anyways I got windy here and I best move on but I just wanted you to know you are not alone in the pain of wasting time on this junk cause I too like you have a rather large network here and the most good I could ever get from a netgear router is turn off the radio and use the piece of crap for a switch. Cause they sure aren't what I consider a router.
